I've had this product for 2 months and so far, I'm not really impressed
. Right after I applied it, I tested out their "throw a towel on it and watch it slip off" and it did not slip off, but oh well, people make crazy claims like that for marketing just like their product lasting "5 years." My car is a black 02 accord that's never been garaged on a hot Los Angeles weather. For the first month and half I was really impressed with the product. Just rinse it with water and dry it and my car still looked waxed. I wash it at least once every other week with just water and sponge as they instructed and let me tell you, the tree sap, bird doo, or bugs does not come out as easily as some stated at the nico forums and their customer reviews on their website. I needed to hose the contaminant for a whole minute so the water can break it down before it can be wiped off, just like how u let dishes with food stuck on it sit in the water for a while so its easier to wash off. THE CONTAMINANTS DOES NOT "FALL" or "SLIP" OFF AS EASILY AS SOME OF THE PEOPLE IN OTHER FORUMS and THEIR WEBSITE STATED. Other people stated that they hose the DIRT right off, but dirt and contaminants are totally different. I am typing this right after I washed my car because I've noticed that the color of my car has become a lot duller (waxed my car with Zymol carnuba every month before I used this so I can tell whether my car is dulling or not), the paint felt like the car hasn't been waxed for a while (I waxed the car again with some leftover 5 star and the feel after the wax is like night and day). What also worried me was that I started to see oxidation (tiny round dull spots) on my paint (shouldn't happen with a waxed car). The water still beads a little, but only when I spray it VERY lightly (in other words, everything beads when you spray it lightly)
Its too bad their 5 year product only has a 30 DAY WARRANTY because I would have returned it and gotten my money back in a heartbeat.
My proof of purchase in case there's doubters.
Invoice No.: 5190 Order No.: 9708320 Date: 05/08/2004
I know its past the 30 day satisfaction guarantee but I would be much delighted if I can get some reimbusments for spending $50 on a wax that lasted me only 2 months.

Go ahead and put something you can trust on their. If you like your Zymol and don't want to spend anymore, USE IT! If you want to try something else that I can tell you I am happy with: My recommendation is to use Clearkote Vanilla Moose to take care of your dulling problem, and then put some Meguiars #16 on top of that. Yes, #16 is old school, but it is very durable. I'm going a month and a half and it's still beading like the first time it rained after I waxed it. You can pick these up for less than $25 (for both!).
Also, buy a good wash. It is very likely that the paint contamination (DIRT) is scratching the paint by not having enough lubrication when swiped across the surface. KIT carnauba is good, Meguiars NXT wash is good, Megs gold class.
Any auto wash that isn't too harsh should do the job. I think what we're witnessing here is some beautiful online marketting. I'm sorry that you got taken for a ride.
BlackAcc02D,
I'm both sorry and really surprised that you are getting the results that you say. I've never had anyone say that their car has started to oxidize. The effectiveness of 5 Star has nothing to do with the climate that you live in. The only reason that I can think that you have gotten such drastically different results than others is that something went wrong in the application process. We recommend that people who keep their cars outside begin the application process first by claying their vehicle to prep the surface. With any finish protection preparation is the key.
Maxboost is currently doing a review with pictures in which he prepped his car with clay before the process. I guess his finish was pretty dirty since he said that it took him quite a while to treat his car. He should be chiming in this week. He's had it on his car for a month and a half which is when you said your issues started.

That's the only soap I have been using for 3 years upon recommendation from a friend. I must have bought over 5-6 gallons.

Maxboost, is your car garaged? I think a garaged car makes a big difference on how long this thing last. Like I said, my car was never garaged (thats why I used to wax ever couple of months and thats why I chose to try out 5 star). I went to Phoenix during mid July and had my car outside the 100+ degree weather for a whole week (my aunt and uncle's car took up their garage). Maybe that took a toll on the wax.

My car isn't garaged and I have no problem getting 2 months out of waxes.
This perplexes me, because even if it was a halfway decent sealant, it should have lasted more then a month.
edit: But even the most durable of the durable will start to lose their protection after a few months (read, no more then 4 or 5). Of course, you get enough so that you can reapply them.
Wax isn't meant to be a permanant barrier. It's meant to be semi-permanant, and re-appliable. I don't understand why people would be happy about not waxing their cars for 5 years, as I like to polish out perfections at least twice a year.
