Default modifying the s2k makes it slower???

I have recently been doing some research on which mods to do to my s2k. Of course the obvious I/H/E comes to mind. But as i was looking at headers and exhausts i noticed that the dyno charts only showed a peak increase of maybe 2 to 4hp per mod at like 8800rpm, but the midrange(5000-7500) showed consistant losses sometimes of up to almost 10hp. So in theory that would make the car slower would it not? The only people who really had dyno charts were comptech.

So are there other companys who make mods that will help the s2000 in the lower midrange where it needs it most, or is forced induction and nitrous the only way to go. I would like to know what mods actually work, not what is most/least popular or most/least expensive.

It depends what you put on it but nothing will make a big difference. You won't really pull on a stock S2.

Sadly there is no 'best' part, but here is the opinion that floats around to my understanding:
Intake: Mugen, J's (ARC not the greatest)
Exhaust: Singles give the most gain, J's and Amuse (expensive), T1R (best deal), Spoon
Headers: Mugen, Spoon, Fujutisbo (sp) and a few others. Avoid DC at all costs!!

With my i/e/h i'm basically the same as a stock 02'. In general even friend's tuned i/e/h Mugen with every single bolt on addition from King Motorsports is marginally faster but response time and such are improved. I'd say half to one car max in a straight line acceleration.

Biggest asset is driving skill. Other than that, I know I am repeating myself but go with final gear ratios. HUGE difference and good value!

i researched gears and from what i can tell the s2k has 4.1 final drive ratio and they used to sell a 4.44 and a 4.77 but now all they sell is 4.56. but i was wondering how fast can you go in 2nd gear i know when i shift out from 2nd to 3rd i think that the gear runs out at 62 but the forward momentum will keep the car rolling up to 65. Does that effect 0-60 times by having to shift one more time? That would suck to only be able to do 50 in 2nd gear.

werd... go for 4.57 or 4.77 gears. Best bang for your buck. Anything else NA will just make you louder. Not that that's a bad thing though...

4.57 is better if you S is a daily; if not the 4.77 will give you stronger pull

so all this being said.. would it be more practical to modify the suspension first? and what would be the best for the money? the reason im asking is because im very close to selling my integra and if i do i'll be buying an 02 silverstone s2000. i already got the loan and i found out today that insurance is only going to be like $20 more a year than what im paying now. :hsughr: im excited as hell, i've been drooling over them since they hit the us market.. i wasn't even old enough to drive!

Definitely do suspension first.

A few weeks ago my suspisions were confirmed. I raced an 02 s2000 with I/H/E (i dont know what brand names they were but the exhaust looked like universals) and was able to pull him anywhere from 1 to 1 1/2 cars every time we raced no matter what speed we went from. My S2000 is 00 and completely stock.

Just remember that every car is different. Some make more hp from the factory, some make less. Some respond well to mods, some don't. Also remember that you can't just slap on any combination of parts and expect to make power....you need them to make power together, and complement each other. For instance, if you get an intake that makes midrange power, but loses top end power, and exhaust components that make top end power, but lose midrange power....obviously they don't work well together, and you're going to end up either losing power, or remaining near the stock #'s. Oh, and don't forget about driver error.

like i have said in everythread down here, stock, the S2k is basically taxed as it gets for NA power. i mean sure you could make more, but it's going to take a hell of alot more than the general I/H/E to do it.

the 00-04 makes some of the most NA horsepower per liter i've ever heard of in a street piston-driven car. (120HP/L, and we thought the ITR was sick at 118...) hell, thats more power than some turbo performance cars (STi for one, i'm sure theres anothe rbut it's 4:30 and i'm beat)
