Default Help ! RSX stereo question

I was wondering if the 6 disc stereo from the Type-S would work in the base model RSX. I have heard that there is an amp in the Type-S that powers all the speakers and that you need that amp to get any sound out of the deck. Any help would be appreciated. I purchased the stereo off of eBay as a gift for my mom and I am running into some problems.

Wow, good q. Yes there is an amp underneath the passenger side front seat in the RSX-S, I belive. And it wouldn't be there if the BOSE system didn't need the extra power. I could def see having to attain that amp before you make use of that BOSE deck.

But don't expect too much from that system, it is weak. You might have been more satisfied with an aftermarket deck.

is there any reason that you would want the factory bose over another brand?

This is a gift for my mother. The reason she wants this system is because it has an in-dash 6 disc changer. She doesn't want to go around to the trunk to change CDs all the time.

I heard it has an external amp b/c the stock BOSE head doesn't have an internal amp. Ur best bet would be get an aftermarket head with an internal amp.

I just installed a Pioneer DEH-7400 head unit and 4 6993 speakers in my base RSX, and they sound great! I was considering installing the Bose system, but as stated many times in this forum, it is weak. Even with the factory sub in the spare tire, my system has just about as much bass.
Install of the head unit was a snap. With the base model RSX, the aftermarket unit mounts right in with no kit needed, just a wiring harness. Follow this link for an excellent step-by-step instruction

Try to listen to a factory Bose setup in an RSX before commiting to buying one. The 6 disc/cassette/ cd all in one is neat, but an aftermarket will give better sound and upgrade flexibility.
