Shifter Grinding?
I agree, when it did happen in my case it wasn't really a full-out grind like if you let the clutch out too soon. It's more of a roughness with a more muted "grind-like" sound, if that makes any sense...
And yeah, I think the issue is overblown as well, but only from my own personal experience...

Our 02 TypeS had a notchy feeling going from 1st to 2nd, never really a grind. Itwasn't present all the time and went away once the car was warmed up.
The 04 TypeS we haven't noticed it.
