Default K&N Filter - Why so small ?

Just replaced my OEM air filer with a K&N drop in.

I noticed that the K&N is about 1" tall, but the factory Honda filter was over 3" tall.

Is this supposed to be this way?

I don't know, I decided against the drop in and went right to an Injen intake. I would assume that it is correct b/c the K&N is supposed to be less restrictive.

the filtering element is more efficient, therefore it doesnt need to be as thick. this also helps in reducing air resistance.

If you're talking about thickness than yes the K&N will be thinner that's the whole idea, better filter media so it doesn't have to be thick(like the factory one).Other than that the filter should fit like OEM,if it doesn't I'd take it back because you may have the wrong one.
