93-96 there is a vtec model. but there is also 92-96 ludes that are sohc and dohc non vtec. all 97+ ludes are vtec. I like the 4th gen better but you will have to decide what you get.

Lets take it one step at a time. First off, think about which style you like better. That's the biggest difference, because handling and performance between the 93-96 (4th generation) VTEC models and the 97-01 (5th generation) five speeds are relatively the same. Excellent.

Now that you've thought about which style you like better, I'll get the fifth gen out of the way. You have 195 hp with the 4 speed sportshift (not a recomended transmission), and 200 with the five speed manual. The base model is the only model available with the SS, as Type SH models can only be had with manuals. Type SH has something called Active Torque Transfer System (ATTS). It is a series of hydraulic lines with sensors at the wheels to shift torque from the wheel with the most to the wheel with the least. If you really want to know about it I can explain in depth with another post.

The 4th gen. VTEC is only available with a manual, and has 190 hp. Still essentially the same motor (H22A, or 2.2 liter DOHC). There is no ATTS or anything of the like on this model. But, you still get a fantastic car. Like I said, it's essentially the same in handling and performance, just different sheet metal and interior.

Let me know what else you would like to know about them.

preludes don't have v-tech they have vtec

in 92 there was no lude vtec in the US so only 93-96 for 4th gens, you can tell by a sticker on the truck that says DOHC VTEC, opening the hood and the motor says DOHC VTEC, and vtec models had leather interior.

you may have just got your drivers license, but buying an automatic prelude means you're not going to be able to do much with it.

Learn how to drive a stick, it's not hard. hooking up automatic cars, and making them "fast" has never made any sense to me.

also the 97+ SS tranny blows cause it's problem prone and the car is slow as hell with it.
