Lets take it one step at a time. First off, think about which style you like better. That's the biggest difference, because handling and performance between the 93-96 (4th generation) VTEC models and the 97-01 (5th generation) five speeds are relatively the same. Excellent.
Now that you've thought about which style you like better, I'll get the fifth gen out of the way. You have 195 hp with the 4 speed sportshift (not a recomended transmission), and 200 with the five speed manual. The base model is the only model available with the SS, as Type SH models can only be had with manuals. Type SH has something called Active Torque Transfer System (ATTS). It is a series of hydraulic lines with sensors at the wheels to shift torque from the wheel with the most to the wheel with the least. If you really want to know about it I can explain in depth with another post.
The 4th gen. VTEC is only available with a manual, and has 190 hp. Still essentially the same motor (H22A, or 2.2 liter DOHC). There is no ATTS or anything of the like on this model. But, you still get a fantastic car. Like I said, it's essentially the same in handling and performance, just different sheet metal and interior.
Let me know what else you would like to know about them.
i want a automatic trans, cuz i just got my driver lisend.. so i will go with auto.. so all the 97+ lude got vtech auto and manual?
