4th gen high mileage?
hey im really interested in getting a 4th gen lude. but i can only afford ones with high mileage. ones in my price range usually have 110k-120k miles. is that high for a prelude? how many miles can a prelude handle before i start seeing problems. i wanna be driving it for at least 2 more years.
that's midlife for a honda. Depending on how hard it's been driven (since it is a sporty car, its probably been driven a little harder then most), it's in decent shape probably.
You limit your options a little bit though. For example, I wouldn't recommend geting forced induction (supercharger or turbo). Also, it's more likly to mess up when you mod it and start putting harder wear/tear on it.
WHen you get it, I'd replace some internals (including seals, etc).
good luck
ps.- do you even plan on modding it? Or just looking to get one for a stock DD?

I just bought a 4th gen w/ 158,000 miles on it, and it runs like a champ! Just make sure that all previous owners have taken good care of the motor, and DON'T get one that's been a bad wreck & repaired! That will give you more problems than anything else.

At 120k the only things to make sure of are the timming belt and clutch. If they have been replaced (or at least the clutch is still solid), there aren't many other things to worry about other than gas and oil.
I bought my 92 Si 4WS Prelude for $1800. It needed a new clutch, tires, brakes, and eventually a new exhaust. It has 157K miles on it. He had all the records for the car too.
I was planning on changing everything anyways.

Lol, 120k on a timing belt is murder. That should've been done by 90k (yes, I am a quite the honda boyscout). Besides, Preludes are notorious for braking belts even before the 90k scheduled mark. THen again, if you meant by 120k the belt should be replaced a second time, I'll shut up now.
