CAI For 5th Gen., Worth It?
If your in the market for a fine watch, do you goto your nearest local corner dealer or to a fine watch store where you know what your getting?
You get it from a fine watch store, if something happens.... take it back. It's covered. The guy on the corner going to help you out if you Roolex breaks or somethings not quite right with it?
Sure you might get a deal on a watch and you might just get one that works for a while, but would you rather take a chance or be sure and have a security blanket just in case?
I dunno where you're located, but california has CARB restrictions. AEM passes and is CARB certified. Ye old ebay special is not.

Not all CAI are created equal, the ones on Ebay are crap, and most of them are not made to the standrads of other brand name Intakes. If they were all the same than why does the AEM CAI make more power than a DC Sports one. It's because the AEM is of course AEM pioneered the Cold Air induction system for sport compact cars. Every system is C.A.R.B. exempt, or pending C.A.R.B. exemption (50-state legal). They utilize a complete hardware kit with soft mounts for a guaranteed perfect fit and have a lifetime warantee. Also, the bends and lenght of the intake make a difference. The ones on Ebay, are usually just machined pieces of pipe, with generic filters. Yes, an AEM comes with a specific filter to oimprove perfromance as well. Like clickwir
said, you get what you pay for, if you want a neato sound, buy a generic one offof ebay, and be sure to pick up a set of Neon windshiled washers as well. But if you want quality, something designed just for your specific application, and something that will earn the respect of fellow sport compact enthusiast than go with AEM.

Yeah, I recently talked to an AEM sales rep, he says they will be checking out if they can make a V2 for the Prelude soon, and he said 4TH GENS as well, so I'll hold off on the intake, the numbers on the 96-00 DX civic is sick: 17 some hp! And KAY, no, not all intakes, whether they are all tubes or not, are the same. I could then say that all waxes are the same, because they have carnuba in all of them, but then Zymol would kill me and scatter my remains in all the world's oceans. Think about how finely polished the chamber of the intake tubing is, and I'm sure there are differences. One is cheaper than the other because it cost less to make, and usually that rule applies universally. I could buy those new Rota wheels, 'cause they look just like Spoon's, but they definitely do not weigh the same. Sorry, not to get on your case or anything, I just hate it when people say stuff like "just make your own, it's the same material", they remind me of a guy I used to know who would say stupid stuff, like when he criticized AWD on cars because he claimed there would just be "more things to break".

Not worth it esp if you are in a city that floods or rains a lot. You can get a bypass for that tho.... Just get e regular intake. Besides, intakes makes the car a little slower in 1st and 2nd gear, but is suppose to be better in the high end, but who cares about that when you are trying to take some punk kid off the line..... yea, sounds a heck of a lot better. Get an exhaust. Apex is a good one not too loud but noticable. Tanabe is very loud. Can get annoying. Really annoying when you are in VTEC.

you're better off passing em in the turns.....
Like I said in my response to your post in the turbo vs. super post, it's common for one to doubt/question something which seems extreme and foreign. At one time I couldn't understand why anyone would want to put any non-honda part on a car, and my dad, a service mgr, still is a bit sceptical, but you have to understand that some of these parts, like the oem airbox, or the exhaust system, are there not because the manufacturer wasn't sure if the car could take any more, but because of regulations, such as emissions and noise. You are a car builder: you have to make a car that is available to most of the people out there, not specifically for one or another. You have to anticipate flooded areas, and possibilites of hydro-lock ... thus, you do not incorporate an intake that sticks down closer do the ground. What makes a Honda such a great car, is that it was built to handle forced induction (if done properly), and last while using it. Step out into the light and let the sun shine on your face ... it's better out here
