MSRP for 2000 Prelude base: $23,950
SportShift: $24,950

I don't remember exactly what the Type SH was, but something around $26,500 rings a bell. That ATTS is some expensive stuff for what you get in return. I did testdrive one, and could not tell a big difference between the two. So I got my base with the spoiler, fogs, floor mats, and tax out the door was still less than the MSRP for the SS. Prelude 99, I can understand your last post. So did many other people, which is the biggest reason for the Prelude's demise. But what people did not see was other cars in the price range either didn't have the perfomance, or quality, or reliability, or all of the above. They saw a Camaro Z28 six speed with gobs of V8 torque and muscle with leather and T-tops for the same price........ untill the clutch blows at 50,000 miles, head gaskets at 80,000, the roof starts to leak, interior trim starts to shake and fall appart, and you've put all this in to the car before the Prelude even needs the timming belt changed. At which point the Prelude is just starting to get broken in. Oh, well. Different strokes for different folks. I'll still be driving my Lude when the Camaro is in the bone yard.

ok well, i realize its alot of cash, but now I need to actually FIND one for a good deal. I've been looking on autotrader, but i usually come up with nothing. Even if i do find the right color, its an automatic, and it has way to many miles on it etc... any good places to look? Or is anyone selling one by chance?

Just keep your eye in your local classifieds. That's your best bet for low mileage and a good deal.

dude, 21k for a 5th gen lude is obscene!! I've seen used S2000's for that exact same price!! just keep your eye out. and as for having a lude in Seattle, once you get it, DON'T do any major exterior mods. They will be gone the second you step away from your car. but you probably already knew that.

They still make the S2000, so technically, the S2000 is governed by the used car market more so than the Prelude. With any low production car, depreciation continues untill the car's production ceases. Now, does that mean an Olds Cutlass Supreme can command a high price just because it isn't made anymore? Of course not since they made 100,000 per year. Preludes are still in demand, as we demonstrate with this very thread, so with the economics of supply and demand it only stands to reason that a late 5th gen may have a premium over an early 5th gen or 4th gen (fourth gen production was over 25,000/year). On the same token, if you find a mint 1996 Prelude VTEC with low miles, they will probably be asking over 10k for it. Or a mint 3rd gen Si with 4ws. Those are very close to being collectable if they are mint.

Yeah, i just bought a '97 prelude w/ the SS tranny, and my malfunction light has come on and is on right now in fact, im thinking b/c it redlined and put itself back into automatic, but i have no idea (if you have any ideas please let me know), but i wouldnt say, stay away from it, but if you can get sumthin else like a MANUAL, get it, if not, dont worry about it.

That's a really good find. A 5-6 year old car with less than 70k on it is low mileage. So it has most likely been babied. I'd say you've got a great find. Is it stick or SS? Either way I'd say you have a very good car for a while. If it's stick, the car is practically just starting to break in. Just keep her fueled with premium and welcome to the club!
