Default Oil change

I took my 98 base w/65k miles to get an oil change yesterday at a Jiffy Lube and later on that day my check engine light comes on. Coincidence...I don't know. I've had all my regular service done at the dealership and just decided to get an in between oil change and the check engine light never came on b4 other than at startup. I spoke to the guy at the place and he says there's nothing they could have done to cause that. The car does have oil in it but I was wondering if there was any mistake they could have made to cause this. Any ideas? Thanks.

buck, did you use vtec try using vtec after the oil change? did you check the oil level? it could be possible they didnt put enough oil (our cars tend to take more than the avg 4cyl) and if you tried to use vtec without enough oil it will through a light, but you wouldve known by vtec not engaging. If you think its a not a coincidence then check the oil level, thats all they really couldve messed up besides using the wrong weight. Did you keep the light on or did you clear it already? if the light stayed on and you dont know how to pull the code to find out what it means I could tell you how....

Check your oil level... When they did mine they left it a quart short because the Si Lude takes a quart less than the VTEC Lude... I told them before they pulled it out that it required a quart more, but they didn't believe me. I pulled the dipstick and sure enough... quart low. Bitched at the guy because who knows the car better than me, Right?

Oh, man. I had a coupon to get a free change at JL...... what a mistake. They torqued the drain bolt too tight. When I went to change the oil the next time it would not budge. So I took it to them, acted like I knew nothing, and when they took the plug off they admitted it was stripped. I knew it. They paid to have the pan retapped, but not only was I infuriated, they offered a free change for me. I took the coupon, and mailed a very nasty note to their corporate clowns along with the coupon. Needless to say, I heard nothing back. I knew they were clowns with cars, but I thought it couldn't hurt just once, right? Sheesh. I learned my lesson.

that's why you NEVER show a coupon for anything until you've been serviced and satisfied.

i use coupons for haircuts once in a while... i always show the ocupon AFTER the haircut to prevent "shock and awe"

haha i guess if they mess up your haircut worst thing that can happen is you shave your head and it grows back. But yea, most of the lude motors are different when it comes to oil as far as how much they take then the avg. 4cyl motor, so if possible, its best to do it on your own. Fastball, youre lucky to have gotten away with just that, I know someone who went to one of those places, and they did something worse. They changed the oil filter, and the little gasket from the old one was still on there, and of course the new one had a gasket as well, and they just put it over, and it cause it to leak oil, lucky he found out by noticing the oil under his car/low oil level when he got home. Had he gone on a long drive , engine couldve been toast.
