Technical ECU Question H22 GSR?
Ok, i have a jdm p13 right now and vtec hits one time. But in a 97 GSR, the vtec kicks in 2 times. The intake cam at 4400, and the the exhaust cam at 5500. Now, if i put the ECU off the type r on the h22a, will i have 2 seperate cams kickin in? It would really help the acceleration. But i wanna know if i will need different vtec solinoids or anything else. Aslo, if anyone knows the fuel curve for the GSR, and the fuel curve for the H22a, please post that.
just so there is no confusion, there is really 2 vtec points. He has a V-afc and you can only adjust the intake cam, the exhaust always kicks at 5500. Im not sure if all gsrs do this, but i want the H22 to, because it would help the motor alot.

B18C only has one VTEC solenoid. you're not hearing 2 VTEC engagements... you're hearing the VTEC crossover at 4400rpm, then the secondary intake runners at 5500rpm.
on the Prelude H22A, VTEC and the secondary runners engage at 5200rpm, hence you only hear one change in pitch. Honda had to raise the VTEC crossover on the H22A due to emissions requirements.
if you were to put a P72 GSR ecu into your car, you'd hear the two distinct changes in pitch... but you'll run lean due to the GSR's leaner fuel maps. you can just have the P72 ecu chipped for H22A duty, or get a VTEC controller.

I am pretty sure it isnt runners that kick at 5500. It sounds alot louder then just a secondary runner. I dont even think GSRs have a dual runner intake manifold. Im accutally pretty sure they dont. But lets here someone elses ideas.

LoL, i did no research, just rode in the car. Damn, it would have been cool to have the intake cam kick in before the exhaust cam. Oh well, thats a big difference when the runneres kick in. I take it that modifying the manifold to only run on the secondaries wouldnt get any gains on the gsr huh?
My manifold is only running on the secondaries and it runs fine, but ive been told you lose low end power. Im still dont know that much about b-series motors. Except H is better

no use having one cam crossover before another cuz you can only take in as much air as you're pushing out.
no if the exhaust valves arent opening as widely, you arent taking in any more air unless you've got forced induction.

H22aBean: the crossover IS VTEC; it's the term for when the lobes on the cam switch over. I think what you mean is to have VTEC engage when the secondaries runners open up? That's not hard to do - just buy a VTEC controller, and move the crossover point from 4400 to ~5750 or so. The car will be noticeably slower from 4400 to 5800, though... and at 5750 you'll get a big change in volume and performance. You might even spin the tires when it kicks in - I've heard of this happening when you move the VTEC point far enough up.

Yes, but wouldnt it be better if you could change the crossover for the manifold? Keep vtec at 4400, and move the secondaries to kick in then. Im sure its controllef by the ecu, but what would stop you from doing that (except not knowin how) And wouldnt that have a boost on acceleration?
