Well I haven't heard of anyone who's had one replaced have a second failure yet. I had mine done at like 40k and I'm at 75k now with no problems or signs of problems. They had a bad part and it seems like the new design doesn't have the failures of the original part.

The H23 tensioner works as well and surely has less risk of failure but at the same time isn't as plug and play as the H22 autotensioner.

thatpreludeguy..... was it only on deceleration when you would hear the GRRRR or on acceleration as well? cause i can hear some on acceleration around 3k-4k rpms when the car isnt fully warmed up, some people told me this could either be the sound of the intake, the stock muffler(which they said is a lil noisy when the car is cold) or jus the motor..... its not the same grrr its like a rrreeeeeeee on acceleration so it could be just the intake.... dont know why its louder when the car is cold though....

Mine was evident while the RPM's dropped but once I knew the sound I could hear it on acceleration as well. As for your noise have you tried listening while under the hood and revving it? It may help you hear where the sounds coming from.

BTW I find my motor to be VERY noisey when cold.

it generally fails when people have their timing belt done and don't replace the auto tensioner or from not properly installing it.

Look here http://www.volny.cz/veitel/prelude/vtec.mp3 at the noise my engine is making. It is Prelude 1995 VTEC with H22 engine with 80000km (60000miles).

The strange sound is going from the timing belt location, not from the balancer belt or any power steering, alternator etc. It makes the sound only at 1000rpm, I can go there from idle or droping from higher RPMs, it doesn't matter. It does not make it anywhere else in the RPM band. Basically when the engine stays idle, the sound is normal (listen beginning of the MP3). When I just touch the gas pedal, so the RPMs goes to cca 1000, the strange sound starts. When I go higher (1100rpm or so), the sound disappears. What can it be??

The sound is since I have my engine rebuild, autotensioner removed, checked and installed back. It looked fully functional. Anyway, I'm going to make the auto to manual tensioner conversion.

sounds like either a loose tensioner on either the balancer or timing belt...
also your valves need adjusting, they are accounting for some noticeable noise too

Yes, the sound goes from the TIMING belt. I have removed the balancer belt and the sound was still there. I am going to make the auto to manual conversion according to 2point6 guide.
