Default F22 -->h22

Right now I have a 92 Prelude S with the F22 engine. Would it be worth it to upgrade to a Vtec H22, or should I just buy a new car? How much do they usually cost? And is there an H22-A as well as H22-B? And what are the HP outputs? Thanks!

well if you are looking at engine/tranny/computer all in a complete package which you may need you should shop around..... depending on the motor and the model you can see a used h22 complete for anywhere from 2300$ and up..... I dont know anyone who did an f22 to h22 but I think if the motors are the same size 2.2 then it shouldnt be THAT much of a problem if not any..... your car is made for an h22 so its not like cramming it into a civic or integra..... the h22 comes in a couple variations..... there is the plain h22 which is japanese and it is 220HP and 160 ft;ibs of torque, the h22a4 is an american h22 which is 200HP and around 150 ft;ibs of torque...... then there are other models of the engine which are more expensive (european h22) so depending on which one you want there will definitely be a difference in price and power so look them up a little bit on the web, I dont see it being much of a problem as far as putting the motor in.

H22A JDM 200hp@6800/161 lb-ft@5500 with (I think) everything you need for a swap for $1850. I don't know how much shipping is... so it might actually be up arout $2k total.

H22A Type-S JDM 220hp@6800/161 lb-ft@5500 for $2900.

I've not dealt with this company, but I've read at least 2 other people on this forum that have and give it a :thumbup:

Well let me first say that I do not own a prelude but I was surfing over here considering the similarity in engines with my 2.2cl (acura). First off it is very possible to swap an h22 in for an f22. Yes it would be very beneficial considering that you would have much more power to work with.

BTW the only difference between your current motor and the CL motor is the the CL'S has v-tec

I think the swap would be the best bang for you buck if you plan on modding your car. I am hoping to have one in my car in a few weeks. I am upgrading from an H23 to H22 though. It still should be an upgrade.
Good luck

you mean an h23 doh non-vtec, isn't that around 160hp? A friend of mine has on in his prelude and his car is faster than some h22a preludes, like the latest generation preludes.

Yes, the h23 dohc is non-vtec and about 160hp. The 5th gen preludes are heavier than the 4th gen's. So yea, stock... I'd say it would probably have a bit of an advantage.

Yeah, you should have no problem swapping in an H22 into your S. The only major difference between the F22 in your car and the H23 in an Si is that yours is SOHC, and the 23 is DOHC. If you're willing to spend, oh, a decent amount of money, I say for the H22 Type S engine, at 220hp, you're flyin'.

i have a 97 acura cl..i just completed the motor and wire harness..im running the h-22 jap spec motor with the j-spec 5 speed ecu...problem...im running a fully built auto tranny..with the 5 speed ecu i cant turn on the silonoids to turn on to go down into first or third..i rigged a switch from a n.o.s kit to turn on first but cant seem to do third..another problem , im having a idle problem with no tranny ecu , the motor doesnt know what to do for idle , nor does my auto tranny have vaccuum so the idle can learn....i know what i should do , but any true racer will tell you automatic is faster than the 5 speed . and i spent 2800$ on the auto tranny, and every ricer has a 5 speed..im a race , not a ricer

oh yea, to respond to the swap..h-22..all u have to change is the drivers side motor mount and for p/s u need the bracket and the p/s pumps....everything else bolts up and depending on the ecu you get u have to run wires for knock sencor and run pressure switch wires to the ecu for v-tech
