Default 96 S to VTEC?

I've got a 96 Prelude S. 2.2L SOHC Automatic (79k miles). I would love to do an engine swap with a 2.2L DOHC VTEC. However, all cars that are VTEC by stock have manual transmissions.

Now, what I wanna know is... can the VTEC be used with an automatic, of course that wouldn't be great, but will it work ok?

Or am I looking at a whole engine/tranmission swap from F22/auto to H22/manual? (Any ballparks on price would be nice if ya know it)

If the VTEC upgrade is just too much of a pain or not possible, what would be the next step down that would get good performance upgrades? Turbo kit?

vtec has nothing to do with the tranny, so go for it.

i wouldnt bother doing the whole engine swap, just do a frankieswap since the f22 bottom end is about the same as the h22s..

I've never heard of a frankieswap. Can you give me some info on what it is?

err frankenstein...aka head swap.

the vtec hardware is all in the head, so all u need to do is swap the vtec head from an h22 onto your h23.

they dont fit together too well usually, but i know some ppl have pulled it off and got great results.

The 4th Gen Prelude S model doesn't come with the H23. The Si model comes with the H23. I also heard of people doing the H23 VTEC, and they claim to have superior results.

You say that you have heard of people doing that on a H23... what about my F22? More/less difficult?

Now the next important thing, where would I get those parts?

That's one of the problems I'm having

Upgrades and stuff for the F22 seem to be very few and very far between. Besides a turbo kit or an engine swap, there doesn't seem to be too many big boosts that can be done. Little things here and there, but not a whole lot.

Most sites talk about the H22 or the ITR's. If anyone has some sites with idea's/suggestions for the F22, please let me know.

sorry to change the focus of the original question but what about this throwing the H22 head on the H23 block. How similar are the two blocks and why do people have a hard time fitting them on there?
