Hey guys, im changing out my brakes and i thinking of changing the rotors too. I want to get the cross drill/slotted rotors but im not sure which ones are good. I was planning on getting the brembos but i was told that they can crack and brake. Is that true??? I also need new pads and im not sure which ones are good. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks oh btw i have an 01 prelude base.

 

get a set of rotors from autozone or brembo blanks. the drilled and slotted rotors don't do much but lighten your wallet.

aftermarket brake pads will help you stop better, but there are trade-offs in more brake dust, increased brake noise (squeaks), etc. some pads to look into: hawk, axxis, carbotech, cobalt friction.

 

I have the Brembo cross-drilled rotors on my EG and my friend has been using his cross-drilled rotors on his VR6 for 3+ years. No problems whatsoever.

It is a common myth that they crack and break.

And, the cross-drilling does not help to stop any better, it simply helps eliminate brake fade. The holes allow more airflow and will only cool the rotors.

 

the vents in the ends of the rotors are for cooling. the holes drilled through the rotors allow gases to escape. they do nothing for cooling.

There is a space between the 2 sides of the brake rotor, and yes this is used for cooling...
But cross drilling is ONLY used to dissipate heat, nothing else.
Heat is what causes brake fade.

And what "gases" are you talking about? LOL

Superheated air? Because there is no gases being emitted by your hydraulic brake system.

 

well, mr. science, I guess you should talk to Brembo, Baer, and others and have them rewrite all of their brake literature. gases build up as a result of the different compounds and chemicals used in the brake pad and rotor manufacturing process.

I've read your links and the "gasses" they are talking about is superheated air. In thermodynamics superheated air is a gas.

The holes and or slots are used to COOL the rotor no matter what you say you've read. I'm an experienced home mechanic and an Engineer and the heat that is built up in braking a car is orders of magnitude larger than any type of compound YOU say is being emitted by the brakes, period.

If there is not enough surface area (aka large rotors) the rotor will not be able to expel this heat efficiently. In order to remove more heat from the system vent holes or slots are used.

 

hey guys..sorry didnt mean to spark up anything. im not looking for better stopping power or anything like that, and as for the rotors, it would just be for looks. I think the brake pads im going with is the PBR/Axxis ultimate $97.00 for both front and rear. Is that a pretty good deal?

 

Good pads, they do dust a bit though.

 

do they dust more than stock pads??
