Default ABS question

I'm looking at picking up a manual 94 prelude Si VTEC. Just looking at this point. I haven't talked with the person selling it directly yet (they are a friend of a family member) but my family member passed along to me that the person selling it says the "ABS needs to be replaced" and that would cost about $1500. I don't yet know what needs to be replaced, but I'm having trouble figuring out what part(s) of the ABS would cost $1500... the person drives the car regularly and it passes inspection. I was thinking it could just be a censor or worst case the entire ABS computer. But still, $1500?

sorry for the lack of detail, I have yet to speak to the person or even drive the car, only "looked" at it so far, but I'm trying to find out what I can before I get into all that.

any ideas? thanks

Or you could just leave it disabled...

My girlfriends car, a 95 SE, has the same problem...
I've tried recovering the code from the ABS computer, but the computer just gives code 0, which means the unit itself is bad.
But this is not the case, because the unit/ABS will turn on and work fine, until the car is driven.
So, it leads me to believe it is a wheel sensor, since the unit is disabled only after the car has moved, and the wheel has rotated. Otherwise the unit is fine. Not sure why I can't get a legitimate code from the computer.
I haven't had time lately to really troubleshoot the problem, and since it is not required to pass inspection, and her brakes work just fine, I've let it go so far.

IMO ABS is overrated anyway...
There is always the "ghetto fix" too... Her sub gauge (ECT and Fuel) went out the day we got the car. I happened to come across a Prelude at the junk yard, and surprisingly, there was a sub gauge. Got it for $20 and put it in. Turns out the car I got it from had no ABS, so there is no ABS light to light up.
The problem is still there, but no indication... Ala Ghetto fixed. LOL
