Question: gas smell
Long story short, had check engine light on...found out I needed the EGR cleaned out, I was getting a misfire in a cylinder and I needed a new secondary o2.
Now I had the o2 and EGR done at a garage and a friend and I did the plugs (NAPA premiums). Car runs noticably better.
Today check engine light is back, car emits strong gas smell. I pulled the code 71 which is a misfire (although it feels like it's running fine).
car REEKS of gas, check engine light will sometimes go off and the smell went away..
Now I still need to replace the plugs..I have cheap cheap Autolitesin there now...my Dad got OEM plugs he wants to put in tomorrow. A friend suggested one of the wires could have not been seated right and that would cause a gas smell.
I honestly don't know. Until today I had NEVER EVER smelled gas.
Please give me some insight.

Hey Vampgrrl :wavey:
Haven't talked to you since you bought your Prelude. Don't have time to bs on HAN, either, in the last couple years..... but I noticed this thread and it sounds exactly like the problems I just had on mine a little while ago (now at 165,000 miles)
I had the CEL throw a code 401 and reak of gas about 3 months ago. My mechanic told me that not only the EGR valve should be cleaned, but also all the little lines and hoses running all throughout the engine. He did it all for cheap, and it cured my CEL and gas smell.
After he flushed out my plumbing, he told me to use a bottle of Chevron Techron once every couple of months. That stuff is liquid gold.
I would suggest using nothing but OEM NGK plugs. Yeah, they're about $20.00/plug, but they are worth it.
Double check all your ignition wire connections, and I would take off the distributor and check the cap and rotor. It may need to be cleaned or replaced. That's something I had to do as well.
Good luck with everything!

Hey fastball
Here is everything I've done in the last week.
The saga of my damn car.
cleaned EGR plugs
replaced plug wires twice (one set was NAPA premium, Honda said they are shit and causing a code...I tried to take them back...NAPA guy called me an idiot to my face)
Replaced plugs with NGK Platniums
Replaced injector O rings (they f*cked them up)
Replaced secondary o2 sensor
and Value adjustment
oh and oil change.
And about $800 later ($850 with a rental)
Car doesn't run like shit anymore.
And my credit card is HURTING!
(This involved 4 trips to different places..and car reeks of stale gas)
I'm still a little bitter.

Calm down, take a few deep breaths.......
If it runs good now, you should be a.o.k. If the engine runs smooth and there's no more CEL, I'd just be happy. And use a bottle of Techron every couple of months or so.

Well I'm ok...
This has just been a pain.
This started last Feb. when it tossed 1 code for bad second o2..and I let it go for lack of money.
Oh well I still have Prelude...I was worrying I'd have to go buy a Corolla or something
