Cold weather starting trouble
92' Prelude 2.3L Si.
Ok, now it seems a new starting problem has developed. If you look at one of my previous posts, I recently replaced the Main Relay, and a pile of other things. It definitely corrected an intermittant starting problem I had, and things were good for a little while. BUT, now the weather has started turning cold over night here in the Northeast, and three mornings in a row (low 30's) this car wouldn't start. It would start for a second, then quit. After that it would just crank and crank. It seems like it needs to be choked or something! But with PGM-FI, I have not idea how that is to take place.
But then as the temp. rises say around noon time, she fires right up, and it's good the rest of the day. Any ideas, please help!

I guess I'm on my own here to try to figure this one out! I'm guessing the Thottle position sensor. But I am getting a code 15 with the blinking light! That might be trying to tell me something! Any thoughts from anyone?
Code 15 is "Ignition Output Signal". Have you reset the computer since you changed the main relay? That could be a stored code from the old issue you had.
The coolant temp sensor is usually the culprit with cold weather starting issues, not the TPS. The collant temp sensor tells the computer how much to richen the mixture according to how cold the coolant is.

Your right!!! No, I did not re-set the computer to erase the code! I will do that and see if it goes away.
That's a good idea about the Temp. sensor also, it makes more sense! I will go with that before I do anything else. Thanks a lot!!!

OK, I replaced the coolant temperature sensor the other day. The first start up seemed a bit funny (hi RPM's), but then it kicked down and now seems ok. It has gotten a bit warmer here the last few days (upper 50's), so now I must wait until the cold air sets in again. This weekend it's going to drop into the 30's at night so that will be a good test! For now it's seems OK!
We shall see!

Well, I guess I jumped the gun again thinking this thing was fixed. This morning temp. was (31 deg.) and it didn't start!
I don't know what to do anymore!!! I tried all kinds of things and I'm completely stumped. Here's my list: Fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, had the head professionally rebuilt after a timing belt failure, Cap, rotor, ECM, cleaned all grounding wires (as many as I could find), Main Relay, Coolant temp. Sensor....what's next? What am I missing???
Could the fuel pump be weak? Should I do a pressure test?
I'm about ready to send this thing to the junk yard!!! I guess maybe I should take it to the dealer. But my last two visits to them they said they can't find anything wrong. What do I do now, Junk it or keep swinging at it??? Help!

OK, listen to this! I got home from work later in the day this car still didn't start. That was different!!! Usually when the air got a littler warmer this thing would fire right up. So I checked for spark...nothing! So I jumpered the service connector and got "code 15" again! Ignition output signal!!! What does that really mean? Alright! I pulled off the distrubutor cap and rotor. Pulled out the new ECM I put in months ago, and disconnected the 4 wires. Then I looked closely at the top yellow wire. That wire goes back inside the housing. It had a coating of dust or something on it. I wiped everything off real good, including the pick up and reluctor. Then I put everything back together, turned the key and it started right up!!! Am I looking at a bad distributor pick up coil? Can I replace that, or must I change the whole dist. housing? Any Ideas out there? I priced a new distributor at the local parts store and it's about $200. Does that sound right? Anyone with an idea, I'd greatly appreciate it!!!
