Default Temperature Gauge - not functioning?

Hello. I recently replaced my clutch this past weekend and my 1998 lude seems to be running fine.

Just today though, I noticed my in-dash temperature gauge not working as it should.. normally the gauge is right in the middle between Hot and Cold.

Instead my temperature gauge sits at the bottom, as if the car was turned off. I drove the car for over 30 minutes, but still no readings from the gauge. I'm not sure what's going.. but it could be a sensor that I may have forgotten to reconnect when replacing the clutch.

Does anyone have an idea where I may forgotten to connect a sensor controlling the temp gauge?

Thanks!

The coolant sensor should be threaded into the head (near the distributor).

I found the coolant sensor you were referring to. It looks like the sensor plug's seal is broken from the connector. Is there any way I can repair this?

Unless you're in a remote location and parts are hard to come by, it would be better to just replace it. Coolant temp sensors are usually fairly cheap.
I would say that if the sensor is broken, and everything's hooked-up, but the gauge isn't working then you'd be better off just replacing it anyway.

disconnect your sensor and apply ground to the sensor harness. turn your key on, and watch your temp gauge. it should go all the way hot. if it goes hot, then you know your gauge and wiring are good. if they are good replace sensor
