Default shudder and vibration at 55+mph

i know this is prelude forum, but im desperate. heres the problem: last night i installed two new axles in my 97 honda civic ex coupe. on my way home i found an amazingly harsh shudder/vibration above 55mph WHILE i am accelerating. its mostly on acceleration, but there is slight shudder while just cruising at speeds above 55mph. i noticed that on the axles i pulled out, they have bushings or weights or something near the center of the axle shaft inbetween the two joints. the ones i put in do not have those bushings. are those dampners for vibration? the axles bolted in perfect, they are the same length, same splines. everything is the same except the bushings, or whatever those things are. has anyone experienced this problem before? any help or advice would be great thanks.

i tink i will have them straightened at this place near me for 60/pc +12/pc to mount and balance them. not too bad.

well i didnt find the problem.. the wheel was bent, but it didnt fix anything. so i took the re-man axles out and put the old ones back in and the vibration was gone. so i got another set of axels. same problem. instead of vibrating at high speeds it vibrates at 25-40mph only under acceleration.

check your wheel bearings. Do this by raising the car on a jack and grab the top of your tire (12 o'clock position) then wiggle it in and out. Pull toward yourself and push toward the car. If they move, bad bearing. also could be a unbalanced tire, broken belt in the tire, loose lugnuts. I don't know what the rubber rings on halfshafts are, I always wondered that, but you could try to cut a piece out and put them around your new axles then superglue the piece back in. Ghetto as a mofo, but you never know, it could work.

i think the easy solution here is to just buy oem axles. as for the guy straightening his wheel...just buy a new wheel. you can find used prelude wheels for next to nothing on ebay. why run a bent wheel instead? what if it fails?!

well i know the wheel bearings are good. i checked the whole front end out. balljoints tierod ends all that shit. checked every bushing and they are all good. i replaced the wheel. i then went to honda and got a price on axles. they were like 250 apeice!!!! no fucking way was i going to pay that much. the dealer said they dont even use honda axles cause they are too expensive. they use napa lifetimes. so i got some axles from schmucks and the car is cured! DO NOT EVER USE CARQUEST AXLES IN UR HONDA!!!!!!

oh, do you work for a shop larry? ya know i've never liked carquest in the first place. i always liked napa, but i think the store next to my old house just happened to have really good people there. i go oem when reasonly-priced, and kragen.
