Default speedometer help

I've tried searching for an answer but came up empty handed. For some reason my speedometer just stopped working. I'm trying to see if the VSS got disconnected but couldn't find it. Plus, for some reason when I release my hand brake the brake light slowly fades away but not all the way and my battery charging indicator light slowly fades in but it lights up only a little bit. So i don't know if this is an alternato issue or just something weird. Oh and its only my speedometer thats not working. And I have a 5th gen. Thanks

hey, i had the same prob on my lude. mine was a bad speed sensor. i found one on ebay for $150 and had a friend install it. that fixed the speedo and odometer. i also had the ebrake prob, but after i got my tires aligned, it went away. i'm not sure if thats related at all, but it worked.

Ok..well um I went and switched a blown fuse inside the car. I think it was the fuse for the ECU or something. Well, I started up the car moved it to like another parking spot and checked to see if the fuse had blown again cuz the speedometer still wasn't working and yup it was blown. So i go to advance to buy some more fuse just incase if that was a bad one to begin with. Anyways, they didn't have the ones i needed so i told them about my problem. They did a battery check and they said the voltage was low on my battery so they said it had to be my alternator since my car was running off of the battery. Ordered the alternator and left. Saw a meinekes stopped there to schedule an appointment for them to install it. Went to start my car and nothing. Hahaha So now its at meineke, how lucky was i, well sorta. So maybe it is my alternator that went bad. I don't know I'll know by monday. Hahaha sorry for the story but I found it kinda funny

Yeah, the mechanic said it had nothing to do with my alternator but a shortage in my gauges. So I bought new ones off of ebay so hopefully that works. But now I can't drive my car because my battery dies. I guess something is running off of the battery everytime I turn my car off. *sigh* cars are bad investments. But hopefully after getting my new gauges in it'll be all good.

Default Speed sensor

I had the same speedometer problem on my prelude as well. for me it was the speed sensor. my engine check light came on and speedometer didn't work. Does your Rpm meter still work? Cause when my speed sensor went out my rpm worked but my speedo didn't. You should check this before you order any gauges to replace your current one because if your rpm meter still moves then most likely its your VSS. Oh yeah and vtec won't kick in because of a dead speed sensor...trust me i've tested it when my speed sensor went out. I'll try to take some pictures so i can show you where the speed sensor is at...but just in case i forget its behind the motor on the left side where the tranny is at...check underneath the intake it should be somewhere around there where you can see it.

Yo thats awesome. But would a broken speed sensor cause something to tdrain your battery because I'e been searching about this problem for awhile and nobody has said anything about their car dying on them. I haven't had my car for almost a week and a half and getting kinda impatient with this. Oh yeah I never got a CEL come on. Yeah my tach still worked prelude vtec. The only time it didn't work is before my car wouldn't start anymore, everytime I turned on the AC it would just drop to 0 rpms. Pics would be awesome because I tried looking for the speed sensor and couldn't find it. Thanks. Plus when I did have my car back for like a day, the needles jumped when I accelerated fast. Don't know if that can help with the diagnosis of my problem
