Default Rough clutch

'ello,

I have a 5th gen Prelude at 98k miles. I just bought it about a month ago. Recently, the clutch seems to be getting rough. For example, it takes a bit of effort to get it into gear when downshifting. It's really only downshifting, and only on 1st, 2nd, and starting in reverse. It's not horrible yet, but it seems to be getting worse. Any ideas what it is? My other car (89 Accord) had a cable clutch, so I really have no experiance with hydrolic.

Thanks.

I would put some money aside just in case your clutch decides to take a shit on you. That's what is sounds like to me.

sounds more like your clutch master cylinder to me. check the floor mat under the pedals. is there a stain? any evidence of dripping? heck, maybe you just need to bleed your clutch fluid.

if its only in first and second, and deffinetly not in 3 4 or 5 then you probably have synchro problems. reverse doesnt have a synchro and on some cars (all of my hondas) i have to put it into first gear to stop the input shaft AND THEN reverse

but check for fluid leaks just incase

before you rebuild, try changing the tranny fluid (ONLY use real honda mtf from the dealer), make sure your clutch is bled/adjusted and the m/c isn't leaking, and learn to rev-match. if you're still having trouble, maybe it's time for a rebuild.
