Default check light.....

hey I drove my 99 prelude yesterday and it was still cold and i had to accelerate fast into traffic a little above 5K rpms.... and the engine check light came on......then I disconnected the battery to clear the code and the light never came back on..... is this because you arent supposed to engage the vtec when its cold? plus im using 20/50W oil, is this ok to use?

Your car should be okay, and it really isn't good to get on your car whenever its cold. 20/50W oil? I've never seen that, or its just that I don't ever look for it. You might wanna change back to 10/W30 oil like your manuel says to use

I'd change back to at least 10W-30 or 5W-30. 20W-50 is for heavy duty trucks, diesels, etc. Low reving, heavy engines. 20W-50 is like praline candy when cold, mollases when hot.

this'll sound nuts, but I was talking to a guy in Hawaii, and he said everyone he knows runs straight 40 weight... I told him he was nuts, but hell, I'm from MN, and I'm used to 5W30...
