Default RPM needle goes NUTS!!!

This is what happened. I filled my tank up with gas and as soon as I drove out of the gas station my car shut off. I restarted the car and the RPM needle was bouncing all over the place for a few seconds and then it was fine. A couple of days later i was driving on the highway when the needle started to act up. I pulled over in the shoulder and the car stalled out. Now my car does this everytime I drive it. I know it's a fuel problem but i don't know if it's just bad gas or something mechanical. I just changed the fuel filter yesterday and the O2 sensor last weekend. My dad said it could be electrical. I don't know? Can anybody help?

Can you hear or feel the actual engine revving or is it running normal and the needle bounces? If it is running normal and the needle bounces, it is possible that one of the screws in the back of the cluster that holds that piece in is not secured. I had this happen when I did my LED conversion, my gas gauge was bouncing all over the place, I didn't know how much gas I really had. It turned out to just be a loose screw.

The engine starves for gas when the needle bounces. Putting the pedal all the way down makes it stall out.

You don't have to take out the dash to get to that screw, do you?

After he cleared it up, it was obviously not that issue. I was only trying to help, more than you have done in this thread.

What I was referring to are the screws in the back (5th Gen) that hold the gauge to the cluster, that also make the electrical connection.

It's not the gauges or gauge wires. The car is stalling out. I think it might be my main relay but would that make the car stall out while im driving? I'm going to change that today.
My car stalled out on the highway this morning on the way to work. I had just enough momentum to pull in the median even though i was blocking cars trying to make U turns.....Anyway, i tried starting it right up and it wouldn't start. After a few tries it finally started up but the RPM needle was going crazy and the car was huggin and chuggin a little bit. Finally the tach balanced out and I was able to make it to work. I hope I make it home safely.

I wrote that on my computer at work.
I actually stalled out right in the middle of a highway on the way home from work yesterday. I had to get my car towed. My car doesn't have a spark now.
