air-conditioner
when i was on the freeway and it was a little bit over 100 degrese i had the air-conditioner on and after a while the gage was saying the engine was getting too hot so i turned off the air-conditioner and rolled down the windows and after a while the gage went back to normal....what does this mean?
Well, since the gauge went back down, you don't have a blown head/gasket, which is good. All this probably means is that you weren't driving fast enough to cool down the engine. Were you in slow or stand-still traffic? The AC tends to cause extra draw on the engine, thus making it hotter.
check ur coolant level, and make sure your radiator fans kick on. your car shouldn't overheat unless something is wrong.
next time you can take it a step further and turn on the heat full blast. that takes heat from the engine and puts it into the passenger compartment.

no i was in the fast lane going about 75-80mph for about 90 miles to a different city and it was realy hot outside and i cant check my coolent level till my bro gives it back next week =\

For starters, have the coolant flushed and changed. But we've been having some awfully hot and muggy days here in Cleveland, and I could be sitting idle in traffic with the A/C cranked up and the temp gauge doesn't budge past half way. And my car has 130,000 miles.
yea its been about mid 95 and over 100 for a few months here in California and when i sit in traffic with the ac blasting it has a weird idle and you can just feel its weird and when i turn it off its fine but mine has about 175,000 miles on it haha, they can realy last a while
