Default ABS troubles

well just got my car out of the shop fixing abs, it was supposed to be the rear left sensor.

the light was off for the ride, then the next day it came on. today my mechanic told me that he was getting a code that meant there was trouble with the rear right. he said he would order the sensor, but the light could go off because all it might mean is that the litte rust he noticed around this metal ring related to ABS (?) could have tampered with the ring and messed up the system. he said drive it for alittle while and see if the light goes off, if it goes off than you will be all set because the rust somehow would get out from underneath the metal ring and wouldn't mess with the system any longer.

does this sound familiar? the integrity of the mechanic is not at question.
what else could it be, and how long should I expect to drive before that rust/dirt would no longer affect the rear right abs?

any help or previous experiences relating to this sort of problem would be great.

If you suspect contamination, clean off the affected area. Then see if the light comes back on. You can remove the sensor from the knuckle and clean it off real good. Then reinstall it. You can test sensors.
