Default Rear Brakes

my car is my screen name. i need rear brakes bad. on the rear passenger side caliper my inside pad wore out. is there something wrong with my caliper for my pads to wear uneven? the outside pad on the caliper is ok, and the rest of the brakes look fine. how much do u think this maintenance would cost? can i do it my self? with what, how? it's time to get dusty!!!

I doubt if there is anything wrong with your caliper. The only thing you need to look for on the caliper is that all working parts are moving freely. I'd get your rotors turned. That can cause uneven wear. Also if you have any leakage and it gets on the pads it can cause uneven wear.

You should have no problem doing it yourself. Disc brakes are generally very easy to work on. I own a 91Si. One thing to note on the rear calipers on mine. I don't know if a 97 is the same way but When I install new pads I have to reset the pucks in to the caliper to accept the new pads that have more pad on them than the worn ones. Most pucks just push back in. The front ones do push back in. The rear ones have to be turned back in like a screw. They have a cross pattern cut in them. You can use the blunt side of a butter knife or similar instrument to insert into this groove in order to turn them back in. I think turning them clockwise turns them back in. :goodjob:

The passanger side caliper might be frozen.(Frozen=Stuck)

After further inspection I noticed that the driver side is worn bad too. it's just time for some maintenance. I'm wondering how important it is to turn the rear rotors? It is only the back brakes??? I really don't want to deal with the rotors, but if you say so i will turn then.

If you inspect the calipers and find that everything is moving freely and nothing is stuck and still have uneven wear I would have the rotors turned.
If the wear is not drastically uneven and your rotors have smooth surfaces then you don't necessarily need to have them turned. However if your rotors are smooth but the brakes pulse that means your rotors have become warped and do need to be turned. I haven't had mine turned yet on my 91Si because everything is wearing evenly, the rotors are smooth and there is no pulsing. :driving:
