Default Surging idle after a CAI install. '94 Si lude

I posted this over on Honda-Tech too, but something tells me that forums kinda sucks. Anyway!

First post!
I just put a full coldair intake onto my girlfriend's '94 Prelude Si, and it was a pain in the ass. But anyway, now that it's installed, it's having idle problems. I started it up and it revs to 2.5k, and falls to 500, and revs, and falls. It runs and drives fine, but at idle it does that for 10 or so revs, and then idles fine. ....then it might start doing it again, maybe not. It's kinda random if it does it or not, sometimes when you come to a stop in neutral it does it, sometimes not.

It might be something do to with the vaccuum actuator thing on this big stupid box that was right over the splash guard. Although I have no idea what purpose it served.

I've heard of this happening on Hondas, and this guy I know had a del Sol that did it after he put a cold air on it, but how do I fix this? Michelle's gonna kill me.

I know the rubber hose going from the PCV to the tube is connected but there's two hoses that have nowhere to go now:

1) Near the throttle body there's a tiny hose that hooked into the top of the stock intake tube

2) Waaay down above the splash guard behind the bumper and fender, there was this big goofy air box thing. Air come in through the fender into this box, and that air was split into two smaller tubes which went to the same place. One has a vaccuum-actuated thing on it, and the other doesn't. But they both went to the same place, which went up to the air box with the fitler, and through to the throttle body and intake manifold. That vaccuum hose that operated the actuator, is disconnected now. But there was nowhere to put it.

Well, I can supply pictures of things if you need. Sorry if I'm not quite up to speed with the acronyms/terminology, I'm new to Hondas. I have two Probe GTs, a '94 and a '95, so the Honda thing is new to me. Enjoying it though!

Thanks!

SEARCH is your friend:

You need to plug the point at the Intake Manifold that those 2 extra hoses originated from. The big goofy thing was the resonator, you can trash it.

Thanks! I did find that thread with search but I wasn't sure if that was my problem or not.

It's amazing how well this car takes to mods, by the way. I was really surprised at the difference an intake made... much more noticable than on my PGT.

if you install a short ram intake does that bypass the resonator?

does the resonator do anything besides quiet the engine noise? does it affect the noise in any way besides volume?

thanks

Yes and yes.

The short ram can actually exist with the main part of the resonator still in the car. You would just have to take out the top part of the filter system.

The resonator actually restricts the air flow by reducing the noise made by the intake, which in turn mellows out the engine and exhaust sound.

By simply adding a SRI you would notice a deeper sound in the engine bay and the exhaust should sound a little more aggressive.
