stop beating up your transmission. It's grinding becuz the synchro is wearing. There's no reason to shift hard into 5th gear, by that time you've already won the race

I believe the 97 and maybe 98 ludes had a TSB on this issue.

Ouch! You're just reving the dang thing too hard. I go into fifth at 4 grand or less, and certainly not under hard acceleration. Like THATPRELUDEGUY said, there is a TSB (not a recall) on that. Check with your dealer, if those years apply to your car. But try not to be so hard on her What has she ever done you you?

I've had that problem but only when i shift fast and in high RPM's. Heres the solution...DONT DO IT. Unless u want to get a new tranny. Its not a racing transmission. If u want to drive that way....get one.

and if iu dont want that to happen....double clutch. If u dont know how to do that....then heres how. Push in the clutch and put the car in neutral. Take your foot off the clutch and then back in and then shift into 5th. It used to be all 5 speeds needed to be double clutched all the time. We dont have to do that because of syncro but if that goes u'll have to double clutch. By the way....practice and you can double clutch just as fast as you shift now
