Default Power steering pump failed, dealers fault?

I finally needed a new alternator at 248,000 miles. The dealer put one on (750 bucks) and as I was driving home I noticed a slight whine frome under the hood. The next day it turned into a moan. It was the power steering pump giving up the ghost. As you know, you have to remove the pwr. steering pump and belt to install the alternator. The dealer won't admit any fault, citing either coincidence and/or my extreme mileage. The belt did not feel to be overtensioned and the fluid level was correct. It was a brutally cold day, though.

Anyway, the moaning was so embarrassing, I removed the belt in the meantime and the steering is mucho heavy. I would prolly keep it this way but I have no chance of avoiding an accident if I need to pull a quick man ooo ver.

Rebuild your pump. replace the pump seal. I did it on mine, and it worked. seal was only like 8 bucks. Remember, the pulley bolt is reverse threaded. dont snap it off or oooops.
