00 lude Q's
im lookin into buyin a new car and a friend of mine found me a 00 lude for 11,000. I seen it and it looks good, but i was curious about the triptonic transmission is it any good, or would i be better off puttin a manual in it and how hard would it be to put in the manual transmission???
the sport shift autos have plenty of problems... no need to get into it.. they suck. get a manual tranny... swapping would cost a bit.. the auto gauge cluster is also different from the 5 spds.

And converting an auto into a manual is more work than it's worth, IMO. Not to mention, really, really expensive.
Be patient and keep looking for a low milege late model Prelude manual and you will be happy you waited.
Sorry, mine is not for sale.

contrary to popular beliefs, the SS tranny is not as problematic as you think when you're just using it as a daily driver. the problem starts when you try shifting it manually a lot. my friend has a '97 base model with the SS tranny and in the 5 years he's owned it, he's never had a problem with it. if you plan on autoxing, the SS tranny would be a bad idea. if you just want a nice looking cruiser that can haul ass on the freeway, i say there's no problems with it.

Just make sure you have the fluid and filter changed every 30k. Whether you think it needs it or not.
When it comes to automatic transmissions, that's not something to mess around with.
I just cringe at alot of newer cars with sealed trannys and no fluid/filter access or level check.

h:Agreed...... you don't see issues with Porsche's Triptronic, BMW's SMG, or for that matter any of Ferrari's transmissions, do you?
