Default Brakes

I've come to the conclusion that stock prelude brakes just arn't cutting it for hard use. They get all squishy after you use them hard. Has anybody upgraded their braking system? Any suggestions (just pads, or rotars, or a whole new system with calipers?).

Also, what's with engine braking? I hear it saves your brakes over time. But does it mess up your drivetrain? Thanks guys, I need this help.

umm, if u have like a 100 dollar budget, get brembo blanks and some axxis ultimate kevlar/caramic pads from www.nopionline.com should get u 2 front rotors and pair a pads for ~100 dollars. u might be able to find it cheaper on some other sites, but i dont know if you are looking for cross drilled or what not, but dont get powerstop..my stupid rotors and warped :\

im about to pick up what i listed above, but lets see what other people say.

what year of prelude do you have. the 4th gen S/Si can upgrade to VTEC 11" rotors and use several different calipers from heavier honda models for superior braking with factory parts.

u will want:
93-96 VTEC rotors

several caliper choices:
93-96 VTEC calipers w/brackets
97-01 VTEC calipers w/brackets
94 ish Legend GS+ Dual Piston calipers w/brackets
94 ish NSX Dual Piston calipers w/brackets

when i did this upgrade i also used earls SS lines to finish it off nice.
u can get quality remaned calipers for good prices at www.rockauto.com
i ended up spending about the same amount as doing a complete stock brake overhaul, and the performance is very noticeable.

as far as 5th gen goes, u are looking at aftermarket for bigger rotors etc.

The previous poster sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

Cobalt Friction's Spec VR pad was first beta tested on a VTEC Prelude in Honda Challenge, by the way.

I think to this day it's the best performance (track performance/racing) brake pad for Hondas and Acuras.
