Default Max revs for the h22

I have heard in some places that the h22 can go well into the 7's even tho the redline is at like 7400, but even if it can do all this, anyone know where the dramatic power loss near those rpm's are? like say, best shifting rpm.

Honda typically sets redline at the same RPM as max output. You can rev higher if the ECU will allow it, but there will likely be NO benefit other than max speed of the car. Staying under redline when shifting is not a bad thing at all-it will preserve the engine a bit. Finding the right shift point for your needs is not hard.

Me and my Freind have taken his 2000 Prelude up to over 8000 rpms....Shifting Vtec to Vtec..Meaning back to around 5500rpm.

I actually have on my 1999 also. I didn't know they had rev limiters. Ours don't shut off like my old civic and integ.

I try not to go into the red in my Lude since I just bought it but my freind could care less and drives it hard all the time. But he has the money to fix it.

well
i have reved my h22a1 into 8000 under full throttle, probably around 8200, the ecu sets revlimit based on several "engine load variables" technically speaking...basically means intake air temp, knock, ECT, etc, etc.

the h22 peaks around 6800 in HP, and starts to lose efficiency drastically after 7400. of course that all depends on your cams, since your cams determine where your engine makes peak HP, as well as how well it breathes at certain rpms.

regardless tho, rest assured there is a ECU determined revlimit somewhere between 7500-8200. so you dont have to worry about blowing your motor.
on a sidenote, ive heard of a stock h22a hitting 8500 without any head damage. of course i can NOT recommend your try this. (assuming you chipped your ecu, OBD1 only anyway).

lastly, i have unfortunately hit about 11k+ rpm's in my h22a1 ONLY ONCE, when i hit 2nd gear instead of 4th under WOT. luckily there was no evident damage, and that happened about 30k miles ago (64k on it now). so basically the h22a is a pretty strong motor, the weak point being the head.

My friend and I Have hit about 8500 before in almost each gear. I still have yet to see the ecu limit it. We have H22a4 1999 and 2000 preludes.

And he did what you said you did. Hit 2nd instead of 4rth racing a 350 short block at over 8000rpms. And his car was not so lucky. He broke 7 of the 8 bolts holding the flywheel on and probebly ruined his tranny. His car starts and he checked for leaks and compression. But now has removed the tranny and will be putting a new clutch and flywheel in and bolting up the tranny and trying to engage the tranny. Then determine how badly he screwed up his engine.

what happened to his crank? the flywheel bolts directly to the crank, if the bolts sheared off in the end of his crank then he is gonna be in trouble.

I have mis shifted from 3rd to 2nd instead of 4th, more times than i can count on both hands. I watched my tack go past 10k everytime, my flywheel bolts have come loose 2 times since i bought the car, but no significant engine damage from what i have seen, i love my h22, still runs like the day i bought it.
