Default Tell model by VIN#

I'm going to buy a 4th gen 95 VTEC on Sunday because my GS-R got wreck and my question is if there is anyway to tell if it is the VTEC model with 190hp 158ft/lb by reading the VIN? I don't want to buy it and then later find out it's got VTEC but it's just an SI. I didn't think all H22's had VTEC but a new thread that was on Honda-Acura people were saying they did. How can I tell?

Look to see if it's an H22A1 motor. If it is, you've got VTEC

not really theres a bunch of little differences like audio, seating, brakes etc... and most people want a mostly stock car, do you want to buy a car with a swap done in someones garage that could have problems later on? well some people Im sure do, but certainly wouldnt pay as much as an original vtec. anyways the vin should have bb1 as the 4-6th digits I think, if not somewhere around there. bb2 = si and ba8 = s.

You are correct. My 4-6 digits are BB6, and I believe BB is H22A, and the number has to do with the very minimal modifications they made on it over the years, but not that my engine is "VTEC ver. 6.0" (not like Windows). You know how goofy they like to make the numbers for model years.
