Default rear brake install problems

Tried to put a set of rear pads on my 98 this weekend and ran into 1 problem. I could not get the rear piston to move, at all. It wouldn't budge an inch. I had a large C-Clamp attached to the back of the caliper and the front of the piston with a piece of scrap wood to guard it. Nothing. Is there something I'm missing, or a trick to get it seated back far enough to fit the new thicker pads? I had the parking brake off as well as the brake fluid reseviour off. Just can't figure out where all that pressure was coming from.

Default

were you using a very large flat head screwdriver to rotate the piston clockwise? b/c that's how you return the piston on the rear brakes.
