For 4th Gen Preludes (1992-1996), there are three trim levels:

The Prelude S has a non-VTEC 2.2 L SOHC
The Prelude SI and SE have a non-VTEC 2.3 L DOHC
The Prelude SR or VTEC has a DOHC 2.2 L VTEC

The SE edition came out in 1995, and was an upgraded version of the SI...Leather seats, CD, Spoiler etc...

If you are looking at buying a prelude in the US, you can safely ignore the SE and SR badges... those are only in Canada.

USDM only has S, Si, and VTEC.

i want a vtec DOHC 4th gen lude (im kinda picky) Is there any way converting one of them into a vtec DOHC besides an engine swap? if not which one would you recomend?
I live in minnesota, maybe i could go to canada for a while and get me a nice ride.

If you want a 4G VTEC, IMO, I would look for an SI with 4WS ( I love my 4WS, it handles incredibly), then swap an H22a in there. A less expensive way would be to just find a well maintained 4G VTEC...they're rare, but you can find a deal on one if you look hard enough. Yet another way to have a DOHC 4G VTEC would be to find a SI (2.3 liter DOHC non-VTEC) and put a H22 VTEC head on it (also known as a Frankenstein swap), but it is expensive, not as reliable, and I would not reccomend it.

don't we all? :rick: I'd love a 94-95 VTEC. I'd probably... well never mind what I'd do for one....

Other than an engine swap... The only way would be to do what RezzasVTEC said and swap heads... but that's going to be almost just as expensive and borderline plain not worth it.

And for your own info... you don't need to specify DOHC when saying VTEC... the only VTEC engine in preludes is the H22 and the H22 only came in DOHC... so it's kinda redundat repetative over again...

the only real VTEC is DOHC VTEC
otherwise your playing tee-ball
4G VTEC ludes run 15.1 BONE STOCK
if you can launch its in the high 14's stock
fastest stock honda behind the ITR, excl. the s2k
and i personally think i would take a stock ITR
a stock for stock race
some kid with a real ITR refused to race me cause he said i would win

the h22a ownz u
