GM & Ford are both still very big leaders in the automotive R&D world
Lest we forget that GM was one of the companies that helped pull the plug on the electric car when they started popping up back in 96.

I have absolutely no love or sympathy for this company and I hope they fail.

If a corporation is too big to fail and needs to be bailed out because of bad decisions, it's too big period.

To be honest, I don't want them to fail at all and I can't figure out for the life of me how one can help them at this current point in time.

You're missing the point that if this would only impact GM it would not be a problem. But some estimates of job loss are just too big for even the USA to handle.

Bail them out but keep an eye on them. Make sure the decisions made a well planned. Cut all the BS expences.

They are already making big changes and at this point enemy #1 is the population... they dont want to buy american cars so make them very attractive by lowering the cost. For these companies to work they should try to price the bulk of the cars lower then the Koreans.

Fuck it even plead with the public... tell them you need there help. Put it out there that GM(and others) was there during war time, that they are an icon of American industrialism. Inform the population that now more then ever it's important to at least consider buying american cars.

A merger is also needed GM needs to get rid of some of the brands.

To do it quickly, they will need to Chapter 11 to restructure. If they are OK with doing it slowly, but want to keep things a bit more stable, the bailout will have to happen.

It's better for most everyone else to have them Chapter 11, but it's better for MI and other central states if they're bailed out.

For the sake of keeping things stable, I'm reluctantly for the bailout. I don't think the government should get any more involved than being allowed to finally up the MPG average requirement of the fleet.

Fuck yeah.

I heard something from Mitt Romney today about that and it hadn't even occured to me that might be a possibility.

Let em file chapter 11, the gubmint steps in and breaks the back of the union driving cost to manufacture a vehicle down and creating a savings all while making a globally viable product at a price point that would be better accepted.

Jan 21st already?

But seriously it makes sense to break the UAW because $20 an hour to put lug nuts on a car with a low end quota to keep your job is killing this country one industry at a time.
