Default Synthectic oil comparison

Synthetic oil comparison

Ok this took a while but I found some interesting table on typical properties of some oils.

Royal purple 5w-20 second page.(synthetic)
http://www.royalpurple.com/pdfsi/rpmoips.pdf

Mobil 1 5w-20 at the bottom (synthetic)
http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lub...il_1_5W-20.asp

Ams oil 5w-20 at the bottom (synthetic)
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/xlm.aspx

Pennzoil 5w-20 second page (NON SYNTHETIC)
http://www.pzlqs.com/Tech/Pdsheet/Do...Multigrade.PDF

Flash point = point at witch oil will burn.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_point

Royal purple 5w-20: 235 C
Mobil 1 5w-20: 228 C
Ams oil 5w-20: 226 C
Pennzoil 5w-20 multi grade: 229 C

Flash point: 1st RP, 2nd Penn, 3rd AMS, 4th Mobil 1

Viscosity cSt @ 100 C = How thin the oil gets 40 is thick 8 is thin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viscosity

Royal purple:8.7
Mobil 1:8.8
Ams oil:8.5
Pennzoil:8.2

Viscosity @ 100 c: 1st Mobil 1, 2nd RP, 3rd AMS, 4th Penn

Viscosity Index = How oil reacts to temp. changes higher numbers are better thy can react to a bigger window of temperatures.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viscosity_index

Royal purple:156
Mobil 1:163
Ams:165
Pennzoil:143

Viscosity Index: 1st Ams, 2nd Mobil 1, 3rd RP, 4th pennzoil

Flash point is important because of cylinder temps. and oil consumption.
Viscosity because oil gets thiner at higher temps.,thin oil damages bearing and thin oil comes with low oil pressure numbers but do not confuse this with low oil flow.
Viscosity index is important depending on where you live, Alaska or Texas also look at pour point if you are in Alaska.

I have a hard time believing everything I hear so I did some research hope you all like it. In my small comparison RP was 1st, Mobil 1 and Ams for 2nd and the pennziol non synthetic lost (more of a control).

good info. i am not to fond of royal purple. certain motors just do not like it. a friend whom races a vette in scca has went through 2 engines and the only hing in common with both of them were that he ran RP. since then he changed to mobil1 and its all good. it could have been a coincidence but i have heard this from a few other drivers at the last enduro i worked, most seem to prefer castrol or mobil
