Maybe you could do it as a kit car?

the sr20ve and the sr20vet are 2 completely different engines...for a high power n/a engine you want the best balancing and lightest components b/c the higher the engine revs the more power you can make...this is the opposite of a production turbo engine where you want sturdy construction (usually iron block) sturdy internals and no need for a high reving engine

I like the design of that car but not for anywhere near $55k. Custom paint/hand assembly, etc, doesn't mean that much to me.
I think that they might be able to get away with that price. Think about it, if the NSX can go for 90K+ dollars being hand built, rare, track capable, etc, etc, I don't see why this can't.

Autobacs has no brand name recognition though...

I know quite a bit about Autobacs. Think Pep Boys, but real parts. You can even buy crate engines there. They have EVERYTHING. Its like freakin Wal-Mart.

Im sure if you wanted a DET they could do it.

The custom stuff, is just free swag from theire stores. You want a T28 upgrade, BRIDE seats instead of reccaro, etc. they can give it to you

I would love for this thing to come here, but as rick said, 55k is kinda steep.

If you can customize almost everything in the car, then I don't see why $55k would be too much? Sure you can get an Elise for cheaper, but you get the cookie cutter version. With this, you can drive a car that doesn't have a twin from the factory. Also, the Elise will use the tuned GT-S version. With my experience, the SR20VE is so much better than that engine. Also, I'm sure they'll find enough buyers considering they're only projecting sales of 10 a year.

I never looked at it that way (name brand). I'm sure that if they put a well known car brand name to it, they could probably get away with that. Only you'd have people complain about paying that much for a 4 banger.

They're not going to sell it to a name brand.

In Japan it's kind of like a kit car that comes assembled for you. If they sold it in America that's probably also how it'd be marketed.

That would only happen though, once Autobacs opens up more than the current one store they have in this country.

I wonder why nobody noticed that they are only planning on building 10 cars a year. and I highly doubt they will bring any to the u.s. unless they decide to go ahead and sell a significant amount anyways...all the headaches with crash tests and epa and carb testing blah blah bllah...wouldnt really be financially feasable if they couldnt sell more than 500-600 per year here.
