the next scion

It's not that I don't like xa and xb, but two is enough. Young people still like low-stanced, smooth looking car. It could have a small engine to sustain its low price, but it gotta look sporty.

Third Scion Slated as Volume Leader
Scion is making a splash with the debut of its first two models, the xA and xB, but officials say the new brand’s third entry will emerge as the volume leader.

Third Scion will borrow elements from the CCX.
The third model’s debut, in June 2004, coincides with the completion of the first two Scion models’ national rollout. For the ’05 model year, all three vehicles will be available nationwide, and Scion expects a combined volume of 100,000 units.
The still-unnamed third model, which will bow in January 2004 at either the Los Angeles or Detroit auto show, will be a “stylish, sleek and sporty” coupe that will compete against the Civic coupe.
Despite recent reports that it will be based on an existing vehicle, Scion officials insist the third model is being executed specifically for Scion and will be all new. (See related story: Scion to Follow with 2-Door Coupe)
Officials are keeping quiet about the new entry, except to say that it will sport the same roof innovations as seen on Toyota’s Concept Coupe Crossover (CCX), shown at this year’s Detroit show. It also will have a different engine than the economical 1.5L 4-cyl. that powers the other Scion models.
And it will have its own set of accessories. “We are working really hard on the third model to have a lot of unique accessories,” says Jim Farley, vice president-Scion.
Accessories are seen as one of the most critical features to Scion’s success. “There’s very serious profit opportunity for our company and for our dealers but it takes a complete mind shift,” Farley says.
