US Elise S2 is a go!
a stock sun international got 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.6 seconds and well over 1.0g lateral grip (sun website)
the last z06 i looked at got 0-60 in 4.6 seconds, 1/4 mile of 12.6 seconds and 1.03 best lateral grip...top speed is definitely in the vettes favor though (http://www.supercars.net/cars/2001@$Chevrolet@$Corvette%20Z06.html)
though acceleration stats and a skidpad are similar...on a track the lighter and much more nimble elise type r should win
take into the fact that the elise type r weighs less than 2,000 lbs and the z06 weighs around 3,200 lbs...the weight difference makes has a huge effect on the track...weight transfer, braking distance, etc.

Car and Driver had the numbers for that Elise at 4.5 to 60 and 13.4 at 104mph. Car and Driver
Also, it wont be past Sun to lie a bit, Chevy said 3.9 to 60 for the Z06.
I dont know what Z06 you are looking at, but your numbers to 60 is more like that of the base vette. The Z06 his 60 in 4.1 seconds and the 1/4th mile in 12.5 at 115mph according to Motor Trend.
More importanlty for this comparisons sake, Car and Driver got 4.0 to 60. They did the 1/4th mile in 12.4 seconds at 116mph. Car and Driver
1st year stats for the z06 were those given...i provided the link but you have to cut and past it in b/c the $ screws up the html link
i'm sure chevy has tweaked its car over the past 2 years to find better performance...the impressive results are that a normally aspirated 200 hp inline 4 car can equal or better a 405 hp 5.7 liter v8

I would take the Z06 over the Sun Elise if I had to drive the car everyday. Otherwise, I would love to have an Elise, becuase they are so rare/light/different.
Anways........... check this ish out Turbo Elise
600 bhp/tonne.
the turbo elise only makes 300whp...uk measurements of hp/tonne sound amazing to us...since we go by lb/hp here...it's probably a short ton they use which is 1200lbs...so i'm sure that thing cooks though
the vette is much more liveable than an elise...but they are both for different audiences straight from the factory...z06 still has lots of creature comforts and is probably the best american sports car we've had since the gt40...i'm not including any vector, saleen cars b/c they only sell less than a 100 a year
