I think the Mondeo is coming badged as a Mercury sometime within the next two to three years. A re-born Contour/Mystique.

The Mazda 6-based Taurus only seems logical. They need to drop that name. We owned a 1986 Ford Taurus, biggest POS ever. I think it's reputation for reliability was hurt from the get-go.

If they replace it with something named F------- i wouldnt be too suprised. Look what happened when they introduced the Focus. New name, nobody cared. They still but that POS by the boatloads.

If nobody cared about the Focus, then it would not have been the world's best selling car for multiple years in a row.

The current Mondeo is a much nicer car than the version we got here as the Contour/Mystique. The way Ford Europe product cycles go we'll probably get a next-generation versino of the Mondeo; which is likely to be based on the Mazda 6.

Round and round we go... :joshers:

I think naming it Focus was a bright move. The Escort name's time came and went. Too bad Mercury didn't get a version of the Focus (think Acura EL). Focus, Mondeo, and Mountaineer would look perfect sittin' in a row at a dealer.

I know the new Mondeo is significantly better, and that we're likely getting the next generation Mondeo instead of the current generation. The current generation can be tracked to the Jaguar X-Type.

The previous Contour and Mystique were fine cars, but were too damned small and had very little marketing support.
