if bmw wanted to save money then they wouldn't have completely redesigned the new MINI from the original design that Rover had when BMW purchased Mini group.
Fact is, the original mini had the central speed for cost savings and BMW chose to keep the "design element" not for cost savings. lastly the LHD dash is different from the RHD dash in the new MINIs
