I love diesel technology to be honest. I'm sure we'll see more of it as time goes on.

what happened to Honda working on these high compression gasoline engines that work the same way as diesel with the same economy but without the polution? and what happened to these ceramic engines Honda was testing in late 90ies?

HCCI. Do a google search. It's still extremely hard to built a reliable prototype larger than one cylinder, but I'll bet we'll see one within 10 years.

According to DaimlerChrysler, the plan is to refill the urea tank every 12,000 miles or so as part of scheduled maintanence for the vehicle.

that's not so bad. but even still,

no extra work > extra work

plus we all know how bad the general public is with regular car maintenance.

I believe in NY they can't sell brand new diesel cars, but used ones are ok.

GM built a ceramic engine back in the 90s also. Ceramics are great because of their heat resistance properties, but ceramics that are strong and tough enough to be used in an automotive engine are prohibitively expensive.
