Now that the Celica is out of production, where is the motor from the GT-S going? From all I've heard, that was a screemer. Combined with the 6 speed manual, it was quite an RSX Type-S competitor. So why not use that engine in the tC and call it the tC-S?

 

that engine was more comprible to the b18c1 found in the 94-01 GSR's. the tC weighs in at 2900 pounds dry, a 4 cylinder like that takes quite a hit with that much weight... they just don't have enough torque.

I see why they made it a lower end engine. The car is made for America and well we like our torque. Obviously the SC goes along with this notion.

But for 4 grand you really don't get a whole lot. In my opinion anyway.

 

The GT-S only made like 180bhp and Toyota had to lower the redline because their valve springs and retainers were teh suck.

The good GT-S redlined at like 8600RPM (Maybe 8400) though. Pretty sweet

Will you pay 30k for an SC celica? Honest, most Americans aren't crazy about Honda/Toyota/Nissan sporty coupe/hatch over 20k.

There are people who even complains about road noise and "harsh" ride of the tC. For the record, the tC feels like a smaller carmy.

ps. tC is NOT a performance car whatsoever. At best it's a nice little hatch that rides very nicely, much like a faily size sedan, without the homeyness. And it rolls around a corner like a fat man down a hill.
