Or I guess the rampant Integra-Civic swapping has gotten Honda a little paranoid about having the two so similar.

You know, instead of the D17 engine, I have been wondering why Honda didn't just do the easier (and happier for everyone) thing by using the K and creating a K18 for the Civic.

I'm guessing a 140hp K18 when the 8th gen civic comes out. They just didnt want to shove a new engine in it mid-cycle, thatll lower resale for the 2001 and 2002 guys. Not what Honda is about.

They also uprgraded the engine in the current Odyssey. Also, if you count Acura, the base engine in the TL was upgraded in its second year of release and the MDX is getting an upgraded engine for the next model year. I don't think any of these hp increases had/will have a negative effect on resale value.

Really?? That's news to me. Honda upgraded the engine in the 1st generation CRV in it's 2nd or 3rd year of release in the U.S.

Like your post said...all of those engines were upgraded but they still were the same basic engine. Putting a totally new engine in a car mid cycle would kill the resale valuse of those produced in the beginning of the cycle.
