Not enough difference from the current one, and both I don't find good looking.

Exterior is too cute for me. Not really digging the trendy taillights. The interior is very nice though.

Let me get this straight

Six speed manumatic?

Anyone got the gear ratios for 6MT vs 6AT?

It's a manumatic in that it is an automatic transmission with a torque converter that lets you pick a gear via shift paddles. It still has the mechanical losses associated with a torque converter. It is not a sequential manual transmission a la Ferrari F1, BMW SMG, etc. I have the Mazda press release with some specs, but it doesn't list gear ratios.

Also, since someone inquired about weight, the press release mentions the new car is "only 22 heavier than the current model." I'm not sure which exact current model they're talking about, but excluding the Mazdaspeed the current Miata curb weight specs range from 2440 to 2473 lbs. So assume at maximum the new one will weigh 2495 lbs.

Default From looking at the new car...

...The design is much more an evolutionary change than the radical change than the Ibuki concept represented.

The smartest move was the availability of a six-speed automatic, which makes the new Miata a far more viable commuter car and could dramatically increase Miata sales. Yes, the short-throw six-speed manual is preferred for this type of vehicle but given the preferences of American drivers....

the miata now looks like a sportier car rather than cute...the 1st generation was very unmasculine and even though it was fun to drive i just couldn't consider one...the 2nd generation made it look a little better an not so cutesy...now the 3rd generation looks the part of a sports car...subjectively i think this looks way better than the z3/z4 & TT maybe even a boxster (never really got into the german designs as they just don't incite passion except maybe me scratching and nodding my head in the "omg wtf")

Here's a couple pics someone sneaked from the Geneva show.

In the second pic you can sort of make out the shape of the removable hardtop which is attached.
