Default 2007 Ford Excursion replacement

Everest? Expedition Max? We've heard it called several things, but here is the first picture of Ford's extended Expedition.

Longer? You bet. The stretched Expedition is potentially as much as 16 inches longer than the standard model.

The Expedition will be redone for the 2007 model year, and it will once again be riding on a modified F-150 platform. In addition to the standard model, there will be this Suburban/Yukon XL-sized Expedition.

This test vehicle is likely powered by a V-6 diesel, but an optional 6.2-liter V-8 - referred to as the Hurricane - may follow for the 2008 or 2009 model year.

So basically instead of a Super Duty based Excursion, there will be a long-wheelbase version of the Expedition. I guess it's slightly less of a road mastadon?

they should rename it to the Execution as it will obliterate anything it hits (even other smaller suvs) or the Ford Valdez as gas mileage will suck in a 6000-7000lb suv even with a small diesel powerplant

In short, it's another rediculously consumptive, overweight barge with flawed dynamics and marginal safety (for everyone else on the road).

Perfect for Suzie Soccer Mom and her 2.3 kids. :a:

Perfect SUV to teach her kids about road kill and road rage and how to give that guy a finger while making a call to hubby in another oversized SUV.

Look on the bright side, it's less of a deathmobile than the Excursion. :goodjob:

Uh... not by much. :eh:

Physics dictates that any 2.5 ton truck is going to win in a collision with a 1.5 ton car. Most drivers are going to be on the losing end in a collision with trucks like these.

Park your NB Miate next to an Expedition or Navigator and you'll notice that the top of the hood is roughly level with your roof. :eek3: It's not a comforting thought.

A relevant side bar:
When the old Excursion was crash tested against the Taurus by Ford prior to it's release; those tests showed a disturbing trend. The Excursion had a nasty tendency to ride up and over the Taurus, coming to rest atop the car...even in low speed rear-end collisions.

While they added a lowered front cross beam to the Excursion before it went on sale, the truck still caused major damage to whatever it hit. In a 55mph T-Bone, the Mk1 Excursion stuffed the Taurus' A & B-pillars in by nearly 3 inches. That's enough to cause fatal head trauma, side impact airbags or no.

I'm sorry if I sounds like I'm ranting, but these mondo-SUVs are always going to endager other drivers in the event of a collision, by virtue of mass.

I hate em too. I was being sarcastic. But stepping down from the Super Duty platform to the F-150 platform does provide a slight glimmer of hope. Anyway I think if I had a collision with it, I'd be able to duck my head, maybe lose my windshield, and be fine.

One day they will have to stop making these things. Then we car lovers can happily watch them rot in peace.
Or not.... who knows I guess. But I confer with how this is some soerious overkill. How did big trucks become so "cool" that they actually hurt the sports car market?
