Uh... not by much. :eh:
Physics dictates that any 2.5 ton truck is going to win in a collision with a 1.5 ton car. Most drivers are going to be on the losing end in a collision with trucks like these.
Park your NB Miate next to an Expedition or Navigator and you'll notice that the top of the hood is roughly level with your roof. :eek3: It's not a comforting thought.
A relevant side bar:
When the old Excursion was crash tested against the Taurus by Ford prior to it's release; those tests showed a disturbing trend. The Excursion had a nasty tendency to ride up and over the Taurus, coming to rest atop the car...even in low speed rear-end collisions.
While they added a lowered front cross beam to the Excursion before it went on sale, the truck still caused major damage to whatever it hit. In a 55mph T-Bone, the Mk1 Excursion stuffed the Taurus' A & B-pillars in by nearly 3 inches. That's enough to cause fatal head trauma, side impact airbags or no.
I'm sorry if I sounds like I'm ranting, but these mondo-SUVs are always going to endager other drivers in the event of a collision, by virtue of mass.
